BONES Scoop: Hart Hanson Teases Brennan’s (Temporary) Replacement, An Extended Season 8, and the Upcoming 150th Episode

July 24, 2012 by

BONES doesn’t go back into production until next week (and the series won’t be back on the air for nearly two months), but after speaking with creator Hart Hanson at the Fox All-Star party, there were a few teases he gave that were just too good to hold on to.

Keep reading for Hanson’s take on getting even more episodes for season 8, who will be (temporarily) replacing Brennan at the Jeffersonian, and that milestone 150th episode…

Get ready for one of the biggest seasons ever…

It’s no secret the BONES episode count grew and shrank several times last season until it finally settled on 13 season 7 episodes and four bonus hours that will be aired at some TBD date, but that means fans will have an excess of episodes this season.

“We will have 26 episodes this year,” Hanson told me. “We are making 22, the order is for 22 and we have four hanging chads [for the bonus episodes that have yet to be scheduled]…I’ve been asked to produce 22 episodes of the BONES show [this year].”

That’s an improvement from the original plan of 24 episodes, right?

While Brennan’s away, there’s a familiar face taking her place.

Brennan may have taken Christine on the run, but that doesn’t mean that the Jeffersonian is shutting down. In fact, while the team continues on without Dr. B, Clark will be the one to take his former mentor’s spot.

I asked Hanson how the rest of the team would take Clark’s promotion, and unsurprisingly, he was a bit coy.

“It’s part of the story!” Hanson laughed. “How do you think everyone would react to having Clark in Brennan’s office? Everyone has to work with him.”

Ah, but not quite everyone has to work with Clark.

“Booth, in fact, doesn’t have to work with him,” Hanson teased. “Because Booth has been assigned to a desk.”

Hm…

Episode 150 is coming!

With episode 150 right around the corner (only 142 hours have aired, but, including the four bonus eps, they’re up to 146 filmed), I questioned Hanson about what that particular milestone might bring.

“Here’s what I’ll tell you: there’s this excellent book, where a Canadian writer did something that I really liked,” he said. “‘Mansfield Park’ is an excellent novel…and then a Canadian author wrote a book that was the parts of the novel that we didn’t see on page. And I am very interested in that. And it’s one of the models I’m thinking about for the 150th episode. But I don’t know if I’ll do that. We have not spoken at length [about what it will be].”

(Personally? I love that idea.)

BONES returns Monday, September 17th at 8 PM on Fox.

26 episodes! Be still my heart! However, its going to be interesting scheduling the 150th, imho, since we don’t know when the cereal box (bonus) episodes will air. The 150th would be the 8th episode of season 8. Better get crackin’ on the HH.

Hate to tell ya, Hart, but that’s what’s called “fanfiction.” Telling the story that wasn’t seen on screen or read on the page = fanfiction. LMFAO! And now you think that’s interesting? Well, the fans will probably be thrilled that you’ve come over to the dark side.

Oh, I love love LOVE Hart’s idea! If it’s about the missing time during Brennan’s early pregnancy, be it just after Vincent’s death or just after the actual announcement, I will be so thrilled!! And anyway even if it’s not, the idea is still very cool.
