Part of a Healthy Lifestyle

THE GO-GETTER
- 4 medium kale leaves
- 2 medium carrots, trimmed
- 1 cup baby spinach leaves
- 1 Granny Smith apple, quartered
- 1/2 lemon, peeled
- 1-inch piece fresh ginger, peeled
Juice all ingredients in order listed. Stir well and serve. Makes 2 servings
SPICY VEGGIE DELIGHT
- 2 broccoli flowerets with stalk
- 1/4 green pepper
- 1 carrot
- 1 celery stalk
- 1 tomato
- Hot pepper sauce to taste
Juice all ingredients in order listed. Stir well and serve. Makes 1 serving
Alternative Uses
Not sure what to do with the leftover pulp? The leftover pulp is mostly fiber and cellulose, which like the juice, contains necessary vital nutrients for the daily diet. Any leftover pulp can be used in a variety of recipes, frothy drinks, casseroles or soups, as well as for garden composting.
Thirsty for something other than juice? The Big Mouth Juice Extractor can help children, teens and adults get their daily vitamin intake with the option of making soy, almond or rice milk. To start, soak one cup of soybeans, almonds or rice in four cups of water for 24 to 48 hours in the refrigerator, and then slowly pour one cup into the food chute. The liquid extracted from the soaked mixture is "milk." For enhanced milk flavor, consider adding vanilla or honey.
Easy Cleaning, More Enjoying
Ease of cleaning is particularly important, because as with any small kitchen appliance, you will naturally use it more frequently if you can anticipate a hassle-free cleanup. With the Big Mouth Juice Extractor, it's easy to assemble and disassemble when preparing to juice or putting away. All parts – except for the motor base – are dishwasher safe. Here are some more easy-to-follow tips for effortless cleanup:
- Place a plastic grocery bag in the pulp bin container to collect the pulp and once juicing is complete, simply discard.
- When you're done juicing, pass the strainer basket under running water and brush off excess fiber buildup or pulp with included cleaning brush.
TIPS & CARE
Some extractors yield more juice than others, and the proportion of pulp to juice varies from fruit to fruit. Most fruits and vegetables such as apples, carrots and cucumbers will not need to be pre-cut into smaller pieces since they are likely to fit into the extra-wide feed chute. However, it is recommended that oranges, pineapples, melons and mangoes be peeled before placing in the unit to minimize impact on juice flavor. Also, all fruits with pits and large seeds, such as nectarines, peaches, apricots, plums and cherries MUST be pitted before juicing. To extract the maximum amount of juice every time, gently guide food down the feed chute slowly so that juice doesn't spray out of the spout. Do not allow pulp container to overfill, as this may prevent correct operation or damage to the unit.

I've done as much as 3 liters of juice at a time with my juicer and had no issues whatsoever, aside from a dumping of the pulp bucket about halfway through. I recommend putting a small shopping bag in the waste bucket so the pulp is easier to dispose of and makes cleanup a simpler process. This beast is loud, like a blender, but that's to be expected with a machine that reduces solids to a liquid.
Cleaning is easy, the machine breaks into four pieces and the package even includes a scrub brush for cleaning the metal grate part and hard to reach spots. Everything detaches from the motorized base, like a blender, so you can clean it all in the sink with ease.
I get a real kick out of the power this thing possesses, no matter what I stuff into the mouth it comes out as juice in the most brilliant and vibrant of colors. I didn't realize how healthy a juice could look until I saw the bright green production that comes from kale, and bright orange carrot juice looks so tasty and vital as it flows from the spout. I'm getting excited just typing this, I might have to go make a batch of juice.
There's only one minor drawback: the juice spout is a little low and can't fit a cup much larger than 8 ounces underneath. I find myself having to place a pot under the spout and then transfer the concoction to a pitcher or airtight container after I'm done juicing, which is not a big deal. I love this machine and it is a tremendous value for the ~$45 you can get it; if you're looking to get healthier like I was, I recommend you buy this juicer and start making colorful elixirs for you and your friends. The energy kick you get from a freshly juiced bunch of veggies and fruits is unreal.
I was told by a friend that she runs her juice waste that is caught by the bin in the back through again to get more juice out. I did notice quite a bit of juice in there particularly from oranges, but I did not get too much more juice running it through a second time. If I were to squeeze the orange pulp I would get only a couple tbsps a the most after juicing 10 large oranges. I find that keeping the basket clean is the best way to keep the juicer working its best and not losing juice into the bin, and sometimes that means cleaning it out while juicing large amounts, which I often do. I would make juice with fruits and veggies at the same time, but always do the fruits first. The carrots and harder veggies will slowly clog the basket, so if I did the soft fruits first, I wouldn't need to clean the basket before I was done. Otherwise, if I was making a lot of carrot juice I could easily pop out the basket and give it a quick scrub to get the pulp out. I just run the sponge along the same direction of the teeth and it cleans up great. Small seeds will also clog the basket. I find orange juice is very smooth, but strawberry seeds will get into your juice.
I'll admit that when it comes to keeping this unit clean, I'm not the best. I get juice and pulp all over the thing sometimes, but I just sponge it off, even under the basket area, and it keeps on working. I have owned it for 3+ years and haven't had a problem. I also take a plastic grocery bag and place it in the waste bin like a liner. This makes cleaning up a breeze as I can just pull all the pulp out of the bin and maybe clean a drop or two. Then I give the pulp to my worm bin and they benefit from this whole juicing craze too. I have granite counters and have not had issues with this unit moving around. I am cutting and feeding the fruits/veggies in while the juicer does it's thing with no worry of bouncing around.
Overall I love the juicer and the price is right. It is very well made and is very effective at getting the juice out of solids so long as the basket is not clogged.
