Obama Appoints Gun-Grabber John McConnell as a District Judge

President Obama is now 20 for 20 in 2011 district court judicial appointments following the May 4 Senate confirmation of John McConnell -- an avowed opponent of the Second Amendment -- to the U.S. District Court in Rhode Island.

The Senate voted 50-44 to confirm McConnell to the bench after a 63-33 tally ended a filibuster orchestrated by GOP leaders. Three previous attempts to confirm McConnell, a Providence trial lawyer, in the Senate failed.

McConnell received the lowest American Bar Association rating of any Obama judicial nominee. Despite 25 years of litigation experience, he was not considered well qualified by anyone on the ABA evaluation committee and a portion of the committee actually found him to be not qualified at all.

A May 3 "Liberty Alert" posted by the Gun Owners of America said McConnell is "right in line" with Obama’s Supreme Court picks — Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan -- and responded "evasively" to questions about the Second Amendment "and refused to declare what he considered to be fundamental, individual liberties."

The GOA also noted McConnell's long history of supporting liberals with anti-gun agendas. "Even in a world where political backers are often selected to fill openings for judgeships and other federal jobs, the size of McConnell’s contributions sets him apart from other nominees," it said. "In 2008 alone, for example, McConnell gave over $120,000 to Democrat candidates."

Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), former Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, voted against McConnell four times. "Simply put, he has an activist view of the law, a biased view of litigants, and a casual view of ethics,” Hatch said. “For this nominee, the ends justify the means and who, I believe, views the courts as a venue for redistributing the wealth. We don’t need judges like him on the bench and I’m deeply disappointed in the White House for selecting him.”

McConnell's confirmation adds another anti-Second Amendment Obama appointee to the federal bench. According to CNN, there are 92 vacancies in the 857 federal district and appeals court judgeships. Next up: Edwin Chen, whom Obama wants to put on a U.S. District Court in Northern California.

I don’t know, is there such a thing as Trillion rate people?

Obama would be after them.

Someone on another blog posted this comment and they make an interesting point:

I, for one wonder what the Liberals of today will tell their grandchildren about how they contributed to the decline of a once great nation.

The Libs seem to be determined to bring this nation down a few notches. Whatever the problem their unthinking answer is to raise taxes in any shape, manner or form.

Whether they are too dumb to realize the economic implications of this or whether they know this and are rooting for it does not really matter. The fact remains that their actions of today will drastically change the economic landscape of the nation.

At some point in the future – if Western society survives – there will be a clear time line where the US was a leader among nations and a bastion of freedom.

And with current events as they are there will surely be a point where this is no longer the case. The key event for this change will surely be the election of Barry Soetero and his hatred of the land of his birth.

Complicit in this decline will be those that supported Barry and carried his water for him. They will have to answer to future generations as to their part in this decline – I wonder what that answer will be?

Not necessarily. Impeachment and Rule .308 could thin some of the herd.

A bigger story is the fact that 11 Republi-Tard, RINO's joined the Demo-Rats in voting for cloture

Senate Thwarts Filibuster on Judge

Had even a few of these morons stuck to principles the filibuster would have held and he would not had been appointed.

Of course there are all the usual suspects: Snowe, Collins, Brown, McPain, Lindsay Graham-Nesty, Kirk, Mur-COW-ski, and a few that surprised, including Lamar Alexander, Thune and Saxy Chambliss.

Wassup with that?

None of them surprise me. I wish they would just switch parties and be done with it.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) signaled Monday that he intends to try to force a Senate vote on the controversial nomination of John J. McConnell to sit on the U.S. District Court in Rhode Island.

Wayne LaPierre is too chummy with Reid. How is that working out?

“Conservative democrat” NRA-endorsed Manchin also voted to confirm the gun grabber.
