A 40 year-old policeman has been referred to the Giza Criminal Court for assaulting a girl inside Imbaba police station following the prosecution’s investigation, in which witnesses confirmed the assault.
The girl in question is reported to have a “psychological disorder” according to the statement from Prosecutor General Hisham Barakat’s office. The 16-year-old also suffers from “audio hallucinations” and she “does not know the time or place”.
The girl was able to identify the man in a line-up, said the prosecution.
The incident occurred on 27 August in the Imbaba police station and the police referred the case to the prosecution for further investigation. The detention of the policeman was renewed for 15 days on 1 September.
The policeman in question had taken the girl to an area of the police station where there are no security cameras. Other female detainees witnessed the assault through a small window on the door where they were detained, according to the prosecution.
