Harnett deputy resigns after DWI arrest

The state Highway Patrol arrested Gary L. Boney early Friday in Johnston County and charged his with driving while impaired and driving left of center, authorities said.

LILLINGTON, N.C. — A Harnett County deputy resigned last week after being charged with drunken driving, authorities said Tuesday.

The state Highway Patrol arrested Gary L. Boney early Friday in Johnston County and charged him with driving while impaired and driving left of center, authorities said. No other details of the were available Tuesday.

Boney was released after posting a $2,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on April 20.

The Harnett County Sheriff's Office said late Tuesday that Boney resigned hours after his arrest. He had been with the department since July 2003.
