Man arrested over baby stabbing in Birmingham

A 37-year-old man has been arrested after a two-month-old baby was stabbed in Birmingham.

Police were called to an incident in Alfred Road, Handsworth, at about 2245 BST on Friday.

The baby boy received several stab wounds. He has been taken to hospital where his condition is described as life threatening.

The man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder and is being questioned by police.

A spokesman for the West Midlands force said officers were not looking for anybody else in connection with the incident.

"Police have a team of detectives investigating, and forensic scene investigators remain at the address gathering evidence.

"A family liaison officer has also been appointed to work with the family during this difficult period," he said.
