Belize’s Disabled Need Help
posted (October 29, 2013)
Members of the Disabled People's International North America and the Caribbean are in Belize this week to conduct a capacity building workshop with the executive members of the Belize Assembly for Persons With Diverse Abilities. The international organization recognized that some of the national assemblies across the Caribbean were in need of strengthening and Belize was identified as a part of that project. With the help of the media, they are hoping to create awareness by educating the population about persons with disabilities and their rights and also strengthen the BAPDA's executive.

Henrietta Davis Wray - Acting President (DPI NAC Inc.)
"We are here in Belize my assistant and I to do a capacity building workshop with this organization. Coming out of the 8th regional assembly that was held on August 2011 in Jamaica, we recognized that some of the national assemblies across the Caribbean were in need of strengthening and so Belize was one of the organizations that were identified to be a part of that project."

"We are here to conduct this sensitization and capacity building until the 2nd of November. We are hoping to create awareness as you are with us today - the media that plays a great role because unless you educate the populist they will not understand what is it you are talking about and for us to come as the head of DPI to strengthen the executive here in Belize will motivate the national to be a part of the organization."

Jerome Flores, Acting VP - BAPDA
"It's very important because we here we have our little problems or situations accessibilities - a lot of things that persons with disabilities faces every day and by us working and joining DPI it equip us in how to get the support of the government and all those who are able to help us and let us apply the policies and everything that can support us and to let us be successful in our lives."

On Friday, sessions will be held with the members of the Belize Assembly for Persons with Diverse Abilities.
