Carson City sheriff’s arrest log: Father jailed on suspicion of abusing disabled daughter

A 62-year-old Carson City man was booked into jail early Monday on suspicion of gross misdemeanor abuse of a vulnerable person and misdemeanor domestic battery, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

According to the arrest report, the suspect is the father of a female group home patient with Downs Syndrome. The 24-year-old victim was in the care and custody of her father when an injury happened to her ankle on Sept. 26 between the hours of 10:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., the arrest report states. The victim got her foot wedged under the seat in a vehicle.

The suspect dropped his daughter off at the group home and stated his daughter did not walk due to her foot and leg being injured.

On Sept. 27 at approximately 4:19 p.m. Carson City Fire Department was dispatched to the group home for a traumatic injury where the victim was transported to Carson Tahoe Hospital by her father. At the hospital the victim was diagnosed with a fracture to her left ankle. She was given an air cast and released from the hospital.

The father took the victim back to the group home. At approximately 8:45 p.m. group home staff observed the father grab his daughter by her fractured left ankle after the air cast was removed. Group home staff observed the father shove the victim down on the bed and heard him yelling at her saying “Can’t you leave it the f*** alone” and “you have already f***ed it up bad enough,” according to the arrest report.

Based on information provided by staff members of the group home, deputies were able to determine the father to be the primary physical aggressor. Deputies collected written statement from staff members.

Deputies then located the man early Monday morning at his home on Brentwood Drive and arrested him at 12:54 a.m. for listed charges of abuse of a vulnerable person and domestic battery. Bail: $5,637.

In other arrests: A 53-year-old Silver Springs woman was arrested Sunday, 1:05 a.m. in the 2700 block of Highway 50 East on misdemeanor suspicion of DUI and failure to maintain a lane of traffic.
According to the arrest report a deputy stopped the woman after observing her driving over the line and driving down the middle of two lanes.
The woman admitted to having four shots and showed signs of impairment during standardized field sobriety tests. At jail she blew breath samples of .145 and .144. Bail: $1,224.

— A 55-year-old Gardnerville man was arrested Sunday, 12:33 a.m. in the area of North Carson and Proctor streets on a gross misdemeanor charge of possession of a dangerous drug without a prescription, DUI, and speeding. According to the arrest report the man was stopped for speeding 50 mph in a 25 mph zone. He submitted to field sobriety tests and failed all tests. As he was walking into jail he tossed two hydrocodone pills to the ground. Bail: $3,879.

— A 26-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday, 3:42 a.m. in the area of Carson and Stewart streets on a criminal contempt warrant. Bail: $500.

— A 20-year-old transient was booked Sunday, 11:16 p.m. into Carson City Jail Sunday on a misdemeanor warrant, contempt of court, issued Sept. 21, 2015 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $500.

— A 54-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Sunday, 4:21 p.m. at an East Bonanza address on a misdemeanor warrant, contempt of court, issued Sept. 23, 2015 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $500.

— A 21-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday, 1:27 a.m. in the area of Roop and Musser streets on suspicion of second DUI and driving with a suspended registration. The man was stopped for speeding and crossing a double yellow middle lane line twice, the arrest report states.

The man told officers he knew the vehicle’s registration was suspended and that he had a few beers earlier in the night. He declined to take field sobriety tests and was arrested on suspicion of DUI. A computer records check showed he had a prior DUI conviction in 2013. Bail: $2,637.

— A 62-year-old Sacramento woman was arrested Saturday, 11:01 p.m. in the 2900 block of Research Way on a misdemeanor charge of obstructing. The woman was told to move away from emergency personnel who were treating an injured woman at the scene. The woman allegedly pushed a deputy to the ground when she was told to move away from an injured patient and then resisted arrest. Bail: $412.

— A 34-year-old San Jose, Calif., man was arrested Saturday, 9:45 p.m. in the 2900 block of Research Way on a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct. The man allegedly tried to sneak into a concert without paying and began fighting with security. Bail: $242.

— A 56-year-old Carson City woman, Candace Andrews, was arrested Saturday, 5:31 p.m. in the 600 block of North Carson Street on felony suspicion, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail: $3,637. A 59-year-old man was also arrested on misdemeanor charges of possession of stolen property, fictitious plates and driving on a suspended driver’s license. Bail: $1,386.

— A 46-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday, 5:59 a.m. in the 2600 block of Blossom View Lane on suspicion of DUI, hit and run causing property damage and open container. According to the arrest report, the man allegedly struck two parked vehicles and did not stop. The man submitted to field sobriety tests and showed impairment on those tests. Bail: $1,966.

UPDATE THURSDAY: The Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the two people who died Wednesday morning following the two vehicle crash on I-580 in Carson City. They are Alejandra Hernandez Valtierra, 36, and Viola Santoyo Huizar, 48, both of Carson City.

UPDATE 12:42PM: Southbound I-580 in Carson City was opened as of around 11 a.m., said a Nevada State Police spokeswoman, who provided more details of the fatal crash that happened early Wednesday morning.

Both the driver of a car and a truck involved in the crash died. Their names have not been released pending notification of family members. The car, which was going the wrong way — northbound in the southbound lane — struck the truck and caught on fire, according to a NSP preliminary investigation thus far. The vehicle makes are unknown at this time.
