Paperny lands $300k from Bell Fund for Eat St.

Vancouver prodco Paperny Films has been awarded a grant of over $300,000 for its project Eat St. Tweet. The money, which comes from the Bell Broadcast and New Media Fund, will be used in support of the upcoming Eat St. series, to develop a website and mobile application that lets users find street food vendors in their city.

Eat St., which premieres on Food Network next spring, travels across the continent to canvas the offerings of urban food cart vendors. It’s not just street meat anymore – today’s vendors offer some of the best munchables from around the world.

While Paperny is producing the series, Invoke (creators of HootSuite) will design and develop the website and mobile app. Passion Distribution is distributing the series.

“We’re excited to be working together with Invoke,” says Audrey Mehler, partner and founding director at Paperny Films. ”Our collaboration is the perfect nexus between a successful and well-respected independent television production company and a state-of-the-art, innovative social media developer.”

The Bell Fund provides grants to Canadian indies for interactive content designed for digital delivery. In the past 12 years, the Fund has invested over $80 million in over 600 new media projects associated with Canadian television programs.
