Lake Oswego bank heist suspect identified as man wanted in Canby robbery, Gresham homicide

Teddy Stivahtis Jr.

Lake Oswego police on Sunday identified the suspect in a bank robbery Saturday as Teddy Stivahtis Jr., who is also wanted in connection with a Gresham homicide and a Canby bank robbery.

The robbery Saturday occurred about 11:30 a.m. at the Key Bank at 16210 Bryant Road. The suspect used a note to obtain an undisclosed amount of cash, then fled.

A police search ensued, and Lake Grove Presbyterian Church, about two blocks away, was put into lockdown as a precaution. The suspect was not captured, and police in the afternoon called off the search.

Stivahtis, 36, has been described by various law enforcement agencies as being about 5-foot-8 or 5-foot-9, 165 pounds, with black or brown hair, and eyes that could be either brown or hazel. The robbery suspect was last seen wearing a white cap, dark brown bulky leather jacket and jeans.

Although the suspect didn't show a weapon during the robbery, police said he should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone who sees him should call 911.

In the Canby robbery, a man wearing a blue baseball cap entered the Chase Bank branch at the Fred Meyer store, 1401 S.E. First Ave., around 2:25 p.m. Monday. The man approached a teller with a note demanding money, implying he was armed. Though no weapon was seen, the teller gave money to the man, who left quickly.

Shortly afterward, investigators identified Stivahtis as the suspect. He was linked to the murder of Deanna Stivahtis, whose body was discovered in her Gresham home last week. The suspect was seen driving the van of Deanna Stivahtis -- the suspect's aunt -- away from her home, Gresham police said.
