Ex-teacher's aide who received bogus OT loses teaching license

A former Mount Olive teacher's aide who claimed 277 hours in overtime he didn't work has given up his teaching certificate as part of his plea deal.

A former Mount Olive teacher's aide who claimed 277 hours of overtime he never worked has relinquished his state teaching license officially as part of his plea deal.

Brian Griffith, 43, a Hackettstown native now living in Tampa, Fla., received more than $6,600 in overtime pay working as an aide assigned to a special-education student, according to a Sept. report by the Daily Record. He pleaded guilty to theft by deception in Morris County Superior Court on Sept. 23, the newspaper reported.

In a decision released online Nov. 9, the state Board of Examiners -- the state licensing agency for teachers -- met on Oct. 30 and agreed to accept Griffith's relinquishment of his teaching certificate for preschool through Grade 3.
