LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A Lufkin woman accepted a plea bargain deal of five years of probation Friday for picking up a stool and whacking a disabled veteran in the arm after he tried to break up a fight she got into with her twin sister.

Debbie Kay Wells, 33, appeared in front of Judge Gerald Goodwin for a plea hearing. As part of her plea deal, she pleaded guilty to a state-jail felony injury to a disabled person.

According to the arrest warrant, an ACSO deputy spoke with the 63-year-old victim, who said he had been outside drinking at a residence in the 200 block of Llano Road when Wells and her twin sister got into a fight.

The disabled veteran told the deputy that when he tried to break up the scuffle, Wells picked up a bar stool and hit him in the upper right arm with it, causing a cut. An ACSO deputy took pictures of the injury.

In addition to other disabilities, the veteran is missing one lung, according to the affidavit.
