The City Council has an ambitious wish list for the feds, pushing for everything from tracking devices for autistic kids to reimbursement for Hurricane Sandy payments.
The Council is backing “Avonte’s Law” — named for autistic teen Avonte Oquendo, who died after slipping out of his Queens school — which would provide voluntary tracking devices for autistic kids, according to its first federal legislative agenda to be released Monday.
The body is pushing the feds to speed up Hurricane Sandy reimbursement payments, noting that the city has so far received only $928 million out of $5.8 billion it should be owed for damages.
The 35 bills and measures requested in the report also include an expansion of the Earned Income Tax Credit so workers without kids can get the benefit, and an extension of unemployment benefits.
