BLAIR, Okla_A brother and sister playing an innocent game of dress-up quickly took a turn for the worst when they found their parents' loaded gun. It happened last night around 9 in the town of Blair. The Jackson County Under sheriff said a 12 year old boy started playing with the gun and accidentally shot his little sister in the neck.

She is doing fine this evening but it could have been much worse. Under sheriff Stacy Randolph said she is up and talking and seems to be getting back to normal.

Randolph said right now it all looks to be accidental. It appears they were not fighting when the .25-caliber automatic gun went off.

"They were playing dress up and playing with water guns in the house."

The game quickly turned into something no one expected when the big brother found a loaded gun in the closet.

"He was manipulating it in some manner and it went off and hit his little sister in the neck. At that time he tried to clean her up, took her down the road to a resident."

That neighbor quickly called for help. When first responders arrived at the home it was obvious the girl needed help and fast. She was immediately flown to the OU Medical Center.

As for her brother, Randolph said he was panicked when they arrived.

"He was really shook up and rightfully so. He saw blood coming out of his sister and he was definitely distraught and in a devastated state."

Randolph said the girl was treated overnight and seems to be doing OK. He said she's lucky, it could have been much different.

"It could have been devastating, a fraction of an inch one way or the other hit her spine, hit the jugular vein. It could have been a devastating event."

Randolph also said there's a lesson to be learned from this accident. In this case curiosity is what drove the 12 year old boy to playing with the gun.

"It's always safe practice to keep your guns contained or to at least acknowledge to your children and train them about gun safety."

No charges have been filed against the 12 year old boy. He said that they are calling it accidental, but they are still investigating the parents.
