They've trialled movie-streaming rentals in the past, but unfortunately none of the movies really grabbed anyone. Miramax's archives of 700 or so films, however, could be just the ticket for YouTube to prove itself as a media destination.

Not to belittle home videos involving cats, otters and kids falling off bicycles, naturally, but No Country For Old Men, and There Will Be Blood are going to be big draws, if Google manages to tie this deal up. Walt Disney sold Miramax to Filmyard Holdings this July, after acquiring the company back in 1993—but so far, they haven't agreed to share films with Netflix, leaving Google the attractive option of scooping up their titles.
