NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Nacogdoches Police officers arrested a 34-year-old man on a long list of felony and misdemeanor charges after he allegedly assaulted a disabled witness and an elderly man who confronted him while the suspect was in the process of burglarizing the elderly man's home Wednesday afternoon.

Then, when NPD officers located Ronny Lee Williams, of Nacogdoches, he allegedly assaulted one of them during a "prolonged struggle." When they searched Williams, they reportedly found drugs on him.

Williams is still being held in the Nacogdoches County jail on a first-degree felony charge of aggravated robbery, a second-degree felony charge of burglary of habitation, a third-degree felony charge of assaulting a public servant, and two Class A misdemeanor charges of resisting arrest, search, or transport and assault causing bodily injury. Collectively, his bail has been set at $105,000.

According to the police report, the attempted burglary and all of the events that followed it occurred at a residence in the 2600 block of Center Highway at between 1 and 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Officers responded to a 911 call about a burglary in progress.

A witness, a disabled neighbor who is unable to speak, managed to alert the home owner, who was in the backyard cutting trees.

The home owner allegedly found Williams rummaging through a freezer in the carport. When he startled Williams, the suspect reportedly kicked the home owner in the face, causing injuries. Williams then ran across the street and hid in a treehouse.

After the people on the scene alerted the officers to Williams' hiding place, they tried to take him into custody. Williams resisted them "by swinging and kicking at officers." During the ensuing scuffle, Williams allegedly punched one of the officers in the face.

The home owner's wife told East Texas News that it took seven NPD officers and five Taser hits to finally get Williams under control. Once Williams was taken into custody, he was taken to Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital for treatment. He was later transferred to the Nacogdoches County Jail.

The home owner went to the emergency room of a local hospital for treatment of his injuries. In addition, he had to seek dental work Thursday.

According to state jail records, Williams has a criminal record that dates back to 2003. He has been arrested and convicted for felony and misdemeanor charges including delivery of marijuana between a quarter ounce and 5 pounds, credit or debit card abuse, evading arrest and detention with a vehicle, and two driving while intoxicated charges.
