Marion County sheriff's deputy charged with official misconduct

Official misconduct charges have been filed against a

deputy who has been under investigation since late last year, the Marion County District Attorney's Office announced Friday.

Deputy Robert D. Arnsmeier, a 10-year veteran, is accused of five counts of first-degree misconduct, five counts of second-degree misconduct and one count of third-degree theft, the office announced. The charges, authorities said, stem from four separate incidents.

Sheriff's officials became aware allegations involving unauthorized personal used of office resources, in December and asked Oregon State Police to investigate.

Arnsmeier, who began his career as a reserve deputy in 2001 and was hired in 2004, was assigned to the enforcement division. He was placed on administrative leave during the investigation, which was turned over to the district attorney's office in March.

Arnsmeier is scheduled to appear in the Marion County Court Annex at 9:30 a.m. Thursday.
