Gossip singer Beth Ditto cited for disorderly conduct outside North Portland bar

Celebrity rock singer Beth Ditto, lead singer for

, got into a bit of dustup and was arrested by Portland police for disorderly conduct outside a North Portland bar early Saturday morning.

Sgt. Pete Simpson, a spokesman for the Portland Police Bureau, said officers arrested Ditto, real name Mary Beth Patterson, 32, outside Bungalo Bar on North Mississippi Street just before 1 a.m.

Simpson said officers noted that Ditto was in the middle of the street, moving back and forth "with her arms out like an airplane" and yelling at passing motorists.

Simpson said four cars were stopped in the road and one driver was honking their horn and yelling for Patterson to get out of the street.

She was booked into the Justice Center Jail on one count of second-degree disorderly conduct and released on her own recognizance. If convicted, Patterson faces a maximum sentence of 6 months in jail and a $2,500 fine.

, Gossip has been a band for about 14 years after forming in Olympia, Wash. and has seen some modest success in the U.S. and abroad. Patterson, who moved to Portland as a teenager from Arkansas, has become somewhat of a fashion icon, appearing on fashion runways in Milan and in fashion magazines.

In 2012, Ditto's memoir "Coal to Diamonds" (with Michelle Tea)  details her rural Arkansas childhood, which was one of constant upheaval and abuse.
