Trenton police officer Lisandro Otero-Ortiz was arrested over the weekend and charged with sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl.TRENTON – A city police officer has been arrested and charged with having sex with a 14-year-old girl, the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office said.
Lisandro Otero-Ortiz, 25, was charged Saturday evening with second degree sexual assault for the crime, which allegedly took place in the city this past June.
The alleged assault took place after both Otero-Ortiz and his victim had consumed a quantity of alcohol, prosecutors say.
City police began investigating after the incident was reported on Friday. The prosecutor’s office was notified of the investigation that day.
Otero-Ortiz was taken into custody Saturday night, processed at police headquarters, and had his bail set at $50,000. He is suspended without pay, city police said Tuesday.
As a condition of his bail, Otero-Ortiz was ordered not to have any contact with the victim, and not to possess any firearms or weapons.
Otero-Ortiz, a 4-year veteran of the force, is a patrol officer in the West District, police said. The alleged assault occurred while he was off-duty.
