Two armed and masked men have attacked a disabled man after bursting into his home.
The 44 year old was targeted in the serious assault at the property in Meadowbank Terrace, Edinburgh, at around 12.50am on Monday.
During the assault the men knocked the victim to the ground and struck him repeatedly with a blunt object before making off from the property.
Officers are now urging anyone who can assist with their enquiries to come forward.
The first suspect is described as being in his early 20's, 5ft 10 inches tall, white with a pale complexion, dark hair growth on his face, brown eyes and dark unkempt hair. He is of skinny build and was wearing a light grey cotton zip-up tracksuit with the hood up, grey gloves, white Reebok classics-style trainers with air holes and a grey scarf.
The second suspect is in his early to mid 20's, between 5ft 6 and 5ft 8 inches tall and skinny build.
He spoke with a local accent. He was wearing an old, black, waist-length outdoor jacket with a dark scarf covering his face and his hood up. He was wearing dark gloves.
Detective Inspector Alan O' Brien of Police Scotland, who is leading the investigation, said "This is a particularly vicious attack on a disabled man in his own home and we would ask anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in the Meadowbank Terrace area in the early hours of Monday morning is asked to contact police immediately.
"In addition, anyone with any information that can help us with our enquiries and assist in tracing the men responsible should also get in touch."
