Fife staff hand-rear orphaned Highlands baby squirrel

A baby red squirrel found orphaned in the Highlands is being fed and cared for by charity staff in Fife.

The Scottish SPCA said the six-week-old kit found by a couple walking their dog at Nethy Bridge may have fallen from a tree.

Nicknamed Angus, the squirrel is being looked after at the charity's Wildlife Rescue Centre.

Centre manager Colin Sneddon said he was being syringe-fed four times a day.

He said: "Angus probably fell out of a tree as he is too young to be by himself.

"We think he sustained a head injury when he fell but we're confident he'll make a full recovery."

Mr Sneddon added: "Angus will stay with us until he's about 10 weeks old and he'll then be released back into the wild."
