NJ Man Mauled by Police Dog During Traffic Stop

Police say he resisted arrest -- his wife tells a different story

James Black, 39, is hospitalized after a police dog attacked him last Wednesday.

It happened after his wife, Michelle, was stopped by a police officer as she left her apartment complex, she said.

James, a cab driver, was leaving as well and stopped to find out what was going on.

The officer repeatedly told James to keep moving, police said. When he didn't’t, the officer tried to arrest him, then allegedly let his K-9 German shepherd take Black down.

“Even once he had him handcuffed, he was laying in the street and the dog was attacking him and the officer stood up and walked away and allowed the dog to keep biting him while he was in the street,” his wife said.

A neighbor captured the aftermath on her cell phone. Michelle filed a complaint with Lindenwold Police. They declined to speak on camera, but said they’re investigating the incident and maintain Black was resisting arrest.

Black initially went to the hospital to be treated for dog bites. He suffered a stroke the day after the incident and remained hospitalized Tuesday night.

Michelle Black says she still doesn’t know why she was pulled over.
