MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) - Former Rhode Island congressman Patrick Kennedy is coming to New Hampshire to kick off a new campaign aimed at putting mental health and addiction issues front and center for policymakers.

Kennedy is leading a roundtable for the NOW Campaign on Tuesday morning in Manchester. New Horizons, an adult homeless shelter, and Manchester Community College are co-hosts of the event. A goal of the campaign is to get presidential candidates and state and business leaders to put a greater focus on substance abuse and mental health services.

New Hampshire leaders including Mary Ann Cooney with the state health department, New Hampshire Hospital chief executive Robert McLeod, Amy Messer of the Disability Rights Center and state Sen. Lou D’Allesandro will attend the event.

Kennedy is an advocate for better mental health care.

This story has been corrected to show that Kennedy is a former U.S. representative from Rhode Island, not Massachusetts.
