What are we hankering for at T as Hermès prepares to unveil the refurbished leather floor in its Madison Avenue flagship next Tuesday? The Hermès So-Black collection, of course. For the first time, a select number of blacked-out and gloss-finished Birkin bags and Kelly clutches — available in leather or crocodile and wrapped in a commemorative black box that is as impeccably chic as the bag — will be delivered to Hermès boutiques worldwide. Not surprisingly, the battle to procure these black beauties has resembled handbags at dawn. “The reaction has been quite exciting,” says Hermès’s C.E.O., Robert Chavez. “Our very eager clients are ready to get their hands on them.” It’s a comment that’s as understated as the bag.
