    Re: Graphics get all crazy 10.04

    I have an LT31 with the same issue. This is the closest I have seen to a fix so far. It involves a 2.6.34 kernel changing some lines in the driver file and recompiling.

    https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27529

    Look towards the bottom, there are 2 options: a patch or a mod of the driver file and recompiling.

    I haven't had the time to try either of these options out yet as my netbook is in pieces right now.

    Well it appears in GRUB I'm still on 2.6.32, hence this may not be my cup of tea at the moment. I'll wait until they release the kernals in their own time to implement the proper fixes. This is really a pain in the ***. I've never been more frustrated at software as I am with Ubuntu right now.

    You can always revert to 9.10 or 8.04. Those versions do not have that issue.

    I know that 9.10 works nearly flawlessly.

    Code:

    Edit: you must run
    Code:
    sudo update grub
    after editing your grub file

    Wowwwwww this solve my problem in my gateway Lt31!
    First time I tryed to do this, but my ubuntu didn't have the /etc/default/grub file! I don' t know why, maybe because i upgrade from 9.10 and something going wrong.
    I reinstall today 10.04, and add the line
    Code:
    GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="nomodeset"
    , to the file that now i have (uhull) and solve my problem. Thank' s mann!!
    Hugs from Brazil!

    @BRUMORINO

    Your slight insert into the GRUB file worked like a charm! I suffer no more from the issues of tiling and scrambled screens! I notice I run into the issue when I maximize any application window. I opened my Tweetdeck, FireFox, Chrome, and Thunderbird client all to maximum as far as screen real-estate goes. I suffered not one glitch or shutter in my UI experience.

    This truly is a fix guys and just so you know I am also running the 31xx series of the Gateway Netbook line. I will also note that I am not running the netbook edition, but the full desktop OS on this little puppy (funny how I'm typing this in FF under Vista).

    Someone, anybody, everybody - get the word out for this fix. If anyone knows of this issue being presented in LP please post this remedy on there as well - great find this one!

    I've had a similar issue trying to play Doom3 on Ubuntu 8.10 with a X1270 ATI Radeon.

    Actually, your video is not too bad. With my video I have strips of uniform color but no discernible images. I haven't even been able to get a successful screen shot otherwise I would show you.
