New glasses allow colour-blind people to see more of the rainbow

A new type of eyewear is allowing people who are colour-blind to see the world around them more vividly.
California-based company EnChroma developed the glasses which block out certain wavelengths to help the brain make distinctions between colours.
Colour is one of the most difficult things to describe to those who cannot see it, making it a uniquely personal experience.
However, approximately one in 12 men and one in 200 women have some form of colour vision deficiency, often impacting their ability to learn at school and preventing them from performing certain jobs.

The company estimates it can help 80 percent of people with the condition.
Deputy district attorney Trevor Oppliger said he was “mesmerised” when he first used the glasses.
“I fought back a wave of emotion as I began absorbing how much impact the glasses were going to have on my life,” he said.
The company had previously released the glasses for outside use, but new indoor glasses have just been made available.
