Hospital appointment scam probed

A crackdown has been launched in Beijing on scalpers, ticket touts who make large profits by re-selling medical appointment tickets to desperate patients at extortionate prices, according to the Beijing Daily Tuesday.

The Ministry of Public Security and health authorities launched the investigation Monday night, focusing on 17 top hospitals including Beijing Tongren Hospital, Pecking Union Medical College Hospital and Air Force General Hospital.

Scalpers caught will be detained and face criminal charges if the act is serious enough, according to the report.
