An off-duty Long Beach police officer on Friday pleaded guilty to drunken driving charges and was sentenced to 20 days of community service, three years informal probation and three months of alcohol awareness classes.

Eddie Sanchez, 30, was seen stopped at green lights and weaving in and out of lanes as he drove from a bar in Long Beach to a friend’s home in Stanton about 4:30 a.m. May 24, 2010, prosecutors said.

When he failed to move his vehicle after a traffic light in Garden Grove turned green, several vehicles began to honk their horns, and another driver was forced to get out of his vehicle, walk to Sanchez’s car and turn off his engine, prosecutors said.

A witness called 911, and Sanchez was arrested with a blood alcohol level of .16, twice the legal limit, authorities said.

Sanchez pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor count of driving with a blood alcohol content of .08 percent or more, while a second misdemeanor count of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol was dismissed, according to court records.
