JOB OPPORTUNITY:

Local Matters Adult Food Educator

LOCATION:  Columbus, Ohio

Local Matters is currently looking to hire 2, dynamic, motivated individuals for the position of Adult Food Educator to join us in facilitating Whole Food Education workshops, luncheons and committee meetings in professional settings. This position will report directly to the Food is Elementary Program Director.

The Adult Food Educator will participate as member of Local Matters team and lead  interactive discussions about healthful, whole foods, how to prepare meals with these foods and prepare educational handouts, recipes and other resources. These workshops will include teachers, parents, businesses and anyone interested in creating a healthy community through the lens of food.

The ideal candidate would possess the following diverse skills and personality traits:

  • Experience and comfort with group facilitation and presentation
  • Experience working and collaborating with diverse populations
  • Familiarity with food preparation
  • Strong communication and relationship building skills
  • Dependability and willingness to participate as a member of a 2-person team on a regular basis
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to use a computer, with a variety of programs for creation of educational handouts, newsletters and team communication
  • Comfortable making adaptations in a work plan based on the community needs
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule as this position will require approximately 25-30 hours per week, with occasional evenings and weekends.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES TO INCLUDE:

  •  Presenting information to adults about whole, unprocessed foods, cooking skills, access to healthy foods and increasing purchase of healthy foods for themselves and their families through hands-on, interactive experiences.
  • Facilitating ongoing workshops to diverse audiences, that are engaging and relevant
  • Supporting Local Matters and our mission to strengthen the overall health of our community through the lens of food

COMPENSATION: $12.00-$15.00 per hour; a weekly "Fresh Market Bag" and a discount at The Greener Grocer.
