OREGON CITY -- A Clackamas County Jail deputy was sentenced Wednesday to 20 days in jail for having sexual relations with female inmates.
Darin Leslie Fox, 38, also must surrender his law-enforcement certification and serve 18 months of bench probation. He has been on paid administrative leave since July.
Clackamas County Circuit Judge Jeffrey S. Jones imposed the sentence after Fox pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree official misconduct, a Class A misdemeanor. Fox's plea followed negotiations between Deputy District Attorney Chris Owen and defense attorney Barry W. Engle.
In his plea, Fox admitted having sexual contact with three inmates in the jail and on electronic home detention.
In the first incident, in March 2007, Fox flirted with a woman in the jail laundry room, then exposed himself. When she was released to electronic detention, he visited her home, where they engaged in oral sex.
In the second incident, which occurred after June 2008, Fox asked a former inmate released from home detention to look at pornography on his county-owned laptop computer, then exposed himself.
The third incident, which occurred in Aurora in July 2009, when Fox visited a woman on electronic release, then began kissing her.
Owen said Fox's behavior was both illegal and a breach of professional ethics.
"Persons in the Clackamas County Jail are not sub-human," Owen said. "They deserve to be treated lawfully and professionally."
Detective Jim Strovink, Clackamas County sheriff's spokesman, said detectives investigating complaints against former corrections Deputy Alan Dean Randol last year heard similar allegations about Fox. After finishing with Randol, who served eight days in jail after pleading guilty to official misconduct, the focus turned to fox.
"The sheriff takes allegations of official misconduct very seriously," Strovink said.
