Gertrude Williamson, Stanley Park, 1890s
Williamson married Professor Edward F Odlum, scientist and historian, in 1905. She is sitting on a rock formation that was known as Siwash Rock’s Wife, which comes from the Squamish legend of Siwash Rock that was popularized by E Pauline Johnson in Legends of Vancouver. Siwash Rock still stands as a well-known landmark, but has been widowed since his wife was blasted to bits during construction of the seawall.
