I've just watched the intro and it looks brill. Can't wait to watch the series! Great writer - Paul Cornell, great cast. I LOVE BBC Three!! Thanks for providing the best viewing on telly (apart from DR Who and Ashes that is!!) :)

  • Comment number 3.

loved it! hope to see the rest of it?

  • Comment number 4.

Looks fantastic. Can't wait to see the full series and find out what is going on. We need more great shows like this on tv.

  • Comment number 5.

I was very impressed wih 'Pulse' - good, interesting, and believeable characters, excitign and (at times) unpredictable plot and enough blood to be scary without being gratuitous.
I was left wanting to know what happens next and really hope that the series is commissioned so that I can find out.

  • Comment number 6.

I really enjoyed that. It looks great. Would love to see more episodes.

  • Comment number 7.

    Wow...
Well, i thought it took a while to get going. Then suddenly at 45 minutes in it turned from "just tension and dodgy injections" to a lot more exciting! I'd certainly watch any more :)

  • Comment number 8.

That was great - really hope it gets picked up

  • Comment number 9.

Somewhat gore ridden and teen slasher. Holby City meets House of Horror...but would watch the series if nothing else on other channels. Plot a little confusing and a little thin. Series might pan out better than this pilot.

  • Comment number 10.

This was well written and directed. Greatly cast and well acted. Just what us brits need a 'Lost' style mystery of our own, I hope they make this into a full series, I will defo be one of the watchers weekly ;)

  • Comment number 11.

This is not as the radio times put it a mix of being human and Greys Anatomy, despite staring Claire Foy Julia Georges ex in the pilot and Greg Chillin Owen from series one. of BH this show has it's own personal style.
The grey's anatomy is probably a reference to the fact that Hanna is trying to emulate her mother a doctor with a towering reputation but this is too dark and too it's own story for that.

there are of course the standers that you get in almost every hospital Drama but only as so many hospital Dramas are out there they can't be avoided luckily this show puts them out in it's own unique style that it doesn't bother you.

The characters are clearly laid out so that you know who they are but also in a way with a good few of them you can't tell where their going.

All in all if or when there is a series I will be watching.

  • Comment number 12.

overall a great pilot i look forward to the character development. although the dialogue is a little clunky in places

  • Comment number 13.

WOW! That looks great, I really hope this gets turned into a full series. All the actors are brilliant and I love the idea of it. Would love to find out more about it so please please please make it into a series! Thank you :)

  • Comment number 14.

Liked this very much, hope a series follows.

  • Comment number 15.

I really liked it and hope that it makes it into a series! I'll be watching it for sure! Its good to see the BBC going out of their comfort zone. What an intriguing program!

  • Comment number 16.

I really liked it and hope that it is made into a series! Its good to see the BBC going out of their comfort zone a bit. It was an intriguing program but I wasn't left unsatisified. You have to make it into a series so I'm not left wondering :D

  • Comment number 17.

    Series please.

  • Comment number 18.

Sorry, maybe I don't scare that easily, but I thought it was just plain boring! With too much fake blood and plastic stomachs, Dr Who is much more of a thrill. The BBC must have gone cheap on the special effects department. I just hope it improves as the series developes.

  • Comment number 19.

I thought the characters were set out well and the story is interesting but all the 'scary hospital' cliches have been used in this pilot, so what's going to happen in a whole series? I'd probably watch more, but that might depend what else was on telly at the same time! Also, maybe it's just my computer screen but some of the scenes were so dark I couldn't really see what was going on.

  • Comment number 20.

    Good pilot!

Bad things: The title kind of.. blows. Wasn't keen on the 'rushing through the corridors' scene-changing motif. Mr Maddox, when dead, looked a lot like Otto from Malcolm in the Middle - which made the zombie funny rather than completely scary.

Good things: The main character doesn't annoy me! In fact I kind of like her. As a person as well as a protagonist. Nice to see a decent female lead - Paul Cornell, I can count on you! Liked a LOT that the New Girlfriend character gets to be a character in her own right, and that she and Hannah don't just hate each other. And that there are STILL MORE realised female characters. The gore wasn't gleeful. Hannah's wardrobe is interesting - I like the button-down and trousers with belt combo. Interesting mystery, and a good mix of cliffhanger/closure thus far. Who doesn't love a good parasite-horror?

  • Comment number 21.

Good acting, well scripted, but I felt it needed a little light relief just now and again.

  • Comment number 22.

I really liked it and could see myself watching more. Good level of tension and suspense. I felt like I connected with the characters. I love hospital settings and even more when it has a bit of sfi type stuff mixed in. Lets hope it gets a full series I would have it on series link.
Cheers for letting me see it early.

  • Comment number 23.

Slow to start and nothing to set the pulse racing. The characters look to be interesting enough and so I would watch a second episode to see if there is a twist in the plot or to see where it was going. But there was too many ideas and sequences that had the look of things we have seen before.

  • Comment number 24.

oooooooooh i thought it was really good!

  • Comment number 25.

Really enjoyed this and am hooked, looking forward to the next instalment!

  • Comment number 26.

I found this surprisingly interesting and entertaining and felt as if this would be a series I would follow. It seemed to take a few dramatic turns which are always a good thing and this left me thinking what could happen next. Lets hope a series gets made from this! Thanks for letting us see this early.

  • Comment number 27.

A good pilot - balancing the need to introduce the characters whilst setting up and advancing the plot is always difficult, but was managed really well.
The sound effects were a little too "heavy" - the scene in the library with the figure in the background didn't need a sound effect to go with it. However, the visual effects appeared well implemented with Nick's self surgery being a high point.

This would make a great series, if the level of writing and production can be maintained - look at the pilot for Being Human as a perfect example of continuous improvement

  • Comment number 28.

Loved It! Intrigue, drama, suspense all with a bit of blood mixed in. Excellent pilot. Can't wait for a whole series.....

  • Comment number 29.

Not bad, but plenty of room for improvement. I felt the pace was uneven - moments were built up then thrown away in fits of messy editing. The rushing-through-corridors motif and fade-to-whites weren't needed, it's not like you can quicken the pace of a drama just by adding flashy bits inbetween scenes. Mainly I'm disappointed because the trailer implied a David Cronenberg-style body horror - unpleasant and disturbing in the best sense, and instead it falls rather flat. The concept, however, is promising.

  • Comment number 30.

Rather clichéd but has a lot of potential. I'd watch the series to find out whats happening.

  • Comment number 31.

I was an extra in this (an oblivious hospital porter to be specific) and had as much fun watching it as I did on set - it was really gripping throughout and very messed up! I like.

  • Comment number 32.

Fantastic drama from Paul Cornell. This series NEEDS to be commissioned, brilliantly written, intruiging and would be a feather in the BBC's cap.
    Wonderful, thank you

  • Comment number 33.

More please! Want the next installment, now please! Wondering which of the two trusted male characters are the real big bad...

  • Comment number 34.

I loved it!! It has a great cast; I thought the characters were really well introduced and loved the suspense! It was very compelling, and would make a great series! I would love to see what happens next!

  • Comment number 35.

I thoroughly enjoyed the pilot - only intended to watch a couple of minutes online and ended up gripped and watched to the end which says it all really! There is clearly huge potential for a really interesting series here and I very much hope that it gets commissioned.

My only very slight reservation was that a couple of scenes were a little over the top in the blood department which, for me, rather than adding to the suspense actually took away a little credibility from the scenes (I refer to the operation and mortuary scenes in particular) There's a very fine line between horror and farce sometimes and I think the special effects team were perhaps a little too over zealous with their buckets of blood for this episode!

All in all though, Pulse was compelling viewing. I can see this being a real success for the BBC. Well done to Paul Cornell for some great writing!

  • Comment number 36.

I thought this was a very good bit of drama. I little bit lacking in the middle though. I would love to see where the writers would take it.

  • Comment number 37.

A little bit inconsistent, but some strong writing in the right moments, and the lead actress was better than I usually expect from most recent TV drama.

Very interesting plot, I would love to see it as a full series and I'm sure it can get a strong following going, although some might find the gory bits a bit off-putting.

  • Comment number 38.

Really enjoyed this. Nice mix of sci-fi and horror, and liked the characters too...Good work.

  • Comment number 39.

Quality stuff Mr Cornell! Nice low-key atmosphere, spooky stuff in ordinary places, neat riffles around the edges of everything from ALIEN, THE THING, PSYCHO, DIARY OF THE DEAD and pretty much everything David Cronenberg did between the mid 70s and mid 80s. Interesting characters too, plenty of intrigue and Caroline Woodall n'all. Not one but two squeamy operations. Right: go to series now. I want to find out what's going on...

  • Comment number 40.

I enjoyed that! Very suspenseful, intriguing and atmospheric, would love to see how it develops as a series. Good job from the cast as well.

  • Comment number 41.

Fantastic, gripping stuff. I hope it goes to series.

  • Comment number 42.

Enjoyed this a lot. Very tense, great stuff. Hopefully it gets a series if only so I can see what happens next.

  • Comment number 43.

    Loved it!
I hope this series will get pick up.
This is IMO a very good, strong and well structured pilot:
    * we get a nice introduction to the main character, the lead character is great
    * the character are very well drawn and played, which makes last but one scene even stronger (I thought it was going to be a different character, so I like the fact that you managed to surprise me, it happens so little nowadays!

So many questions are buzzing in my head right now, so I hope I'll get an answer one day!

Thanks for the start of what could be a great story!

  • Comment number 44.

Not for the squeamish! Be warned!

Really good though, definite promise. And it neatly plays on one's hospital nightmares.

Dear Auntie Beeb - please make this into a series! Many thanks, Ben (aged 29 and 3/4)

  • Comment number 45.

Pretty good as a pilot. I'd watch more but the direction it takes from here is the big question.

What is the new treatment, where does it come from, who controls it? Is it just this hospital and if so why? Is Hannah's mother just another test case, or is she more deeply connected? What corporate or political involvement is there?

This could go a long way or could just stay as a cosy (!) little hospital horror story. The latter would be letting down the potential that this pilot shows and the quality that we all know the writing team has.

  • Comment number 46.

This is awesome! I really enjoyed it. I'm a huge horror fan and it's refreshing to see horror that's aimed at adults rather than teenagers. It reminded me a bit of The Kingdom and had some Cronenberg in there as well - both excellent reference points. I would to see a whole series - I need to know what happens next!

  • Comment number 47.

I loved this, however I find it a bit too bleak. I would like to see some more jokes in there to balance the very scary scenes and perhaps better interaction with the characters (not always looking so scared and sullen) Still bloody brilliant, though!

  • Comment number 48.

Not bad. Not bad at all!

Are we in a "only one of the three pilots gets the nod" territory again?

If so, I suppose I should wait until all three have been shown, but thus far, I likee!

    K

  • Comment number 49.

I thought that was great! Really hooked and couldn't believe that an hour had gone by. Really intrigued by the central plot but enjoyed the hints and teases for the supporting cast as to where their storylines could go too. So yeah...I want to see more!

I'm really pleased it played it straight too, as much I'm a fan of other shows, the jokey, tongue-in-cheek take on horror is beginning to get a little thin so I appreciated the drama and quite how scary people can be.

A brilliant pilot that feels like a perfect episode one already. More please :-)

  • Comment number 50.

Interesting idea and for the most part well done, a tense atmosphere and a good pace made for a gripping watch.

The writing was on top form but would expect no less from Mr Cornell, the actors all gave very good performaces and this was shot very well.

I had two issues, as some else has stated there is a fine line between face and horror, the scene where the interns were watching the operation taking place went into farce territory for me, also the short sex scene seemed a bit out of place, just seemed like this was done because it could be done.

All in all I really enjoyed this would watch if this got picked up.

  • Comment number 51.

I enjoyed this & would like to see more. I just hope I don't have nightmares now!!

  • Comment number 52.

Super, please make sure died-in-the-wool BBC1 watchers like myself get to know when the actual series is on - I missed a lot of Being Human simply because I didn't know about it !!

  • Comment number 53.

Really enjoyed the Pulse pilot and would definitely watch a series. Tension was done really well and the gore bits were nicely balanced (not too free flowing but enough to creep me out!). Tone was well suited to it too - glad it didn't go down the jokey, gross out route.

  • Comment number 54.

Pulse was excellent. Well written, well acted and it looked great. I would love to see a series

  • Comment number 55.

Great atmosphere to this show. The mystery at its heart is intriguing.
Give this a series and it definitely goes on my "to watch" list.

A straight horror show is something we haven't seen on UK tv for too long, this will fill that void nicely.

  • Comment number 56.

Awesome! What a great Pilot, how long till a full series?

  • Comment number 57.

Really enjoyed this actually - dont really think it warrants the comparisons to Being Human though. Other than being creepy and British!
The mortuary scene was a little farcical too, it kind of took away from the feel of that entire scene. I thought the characters were great and believable. I predict that the head doctor (is that what you call them?) will be at the root of it all. She mentioned Hannahs mother early on and seemed to be matey with her - she's got to be in on it!

Is it another case of only one of these pilots will get comissioned? This is good, but I cant wait for the others. I'm praying that Dappers lives up to my expectations...

  • Comment number 58.

    Dear BBC Commissioning Editors,

If you don't commission a series of this *immediately* then you're INSANE! This has all the makings of an absolute classic; great central performances, brilliant setting and atmosphere, strong script, unsettling and engaging and *perfect*. I was hooked.

I want to see this on my screen ASAP please.

  • Comment number 59.

Firstly...please please please tone down on the 'atmospheric music'/sound effects...they are detracting from the character conversations at points and I found myself twiddling with volume control quite a bit....
Otherwise, the pilot itself, I enjoyed. I thought there was a lot of information being crammed into 1 pilot episode, but I would like to find out more for sure. The actors were great, characters seem to be interesting and would like to know more, and cliff-hanger at the end (Hannah's mum alive or dead? Will Nick come back like the others or has he been written off in the pilot?) Altogether I would watch the series, jsut less dramatic music, and I agree with other comments, perhaps a little light relief between tense moments would ease the viewing slightly giving it an appeal to a wider audience.

  • Comment number 60.

Definitely got better as it went along...was beginning to think in the first 20mins or so that I wasn't particularly interested in any of the characters....even poor Mr Maddox. It seemed like al the characters bar Hannah were all similar ie, uncaring, out for themselves etc.
My interest picked up when the characters started to become more disctinct from each other and more intruiging...they weren't all as they had originally seemed. The horror element is there and it's sufficiently different from anything on tv at the moment to make me want to watch a series. Liked the last sequence...wasn't expecting that!
I'm hoping that the story arc for the series...assuming it gets commissioned... will be gripping enough to last the series and with unexpected twists and turns...it's the sort of drama where characters shouldn't be predictable but 'believable' enough that the viewer wants to invest emotion ...for good or bad...in them.
So...yes...think it deserves a series and looking forward to watching it again on big screen on Thursday..blood and gore in close up!

  • Comment number 61.

Interesting take on the supernatural drama, and also refreshing to see something that was a straight horror show rather than a Buffy-style show crammed with as much pop culture references.

Hope to see it get the green light for a full series.

  • Comment number 62.

That was an amazing pilot, hope to be seeing the rest of this series soon.

  • Comment number 63.

I ready enjoyed the pilot and i hope to see more of this series soon. Congratulations to all involved!

  • Comment number 64.

    Mind suitably blown!! Loved it!!

  • Comment number 65.

Absolutely brilliant. Old School Horror done well without resorting to "shock value" gore. I really hope we get to see more. Stellar writing from Paul Cornell

  • Comment number 66.

very creepy, please go to series, I want to know what happens!

  • Comment number 67.

I really liked it and hope it gets passed from pilot to full blown series. I liked the sense of menace and real horror wrapped up in the seeming normalcy of a hospital setting. Not knowing outright who the 'good guys and bad guys' were was refreshing and also make me want to know more about all of the characters. and *spoiler warning for those who haven't watched the ep yet* The final reveal about the characters mother was a nicely done.

    MORE PLEASE :)

  • Comment number 68.

Thanks for all your comments so far. Don't forget you can watch the next two drama pilots here on the blog tomorrow.

  • Comment number 69.

wow this was brill cannot wait for the series well done BBC3

  • Comment number 70.

I didn't know it was on

  • Comment number 71.

A really interesting take on the usual hospital drama. Very scary and full of suspense. I can't wait to see the next episode!

  • Comment number 72.

Great to see some gruey horror on the BBC and I really enjoyed the spooky library scene and the ending. Thought the acting and writing were both on point, but the tone was overly serious for what is essentially a pretty hokey plot (though an enjoyable one!) I don't think it needed as much music (perhaps even none at all) and the hackneyed super fast editing from the school of 28 Days Later really began to grate - particularly during the action sequences. I suspect a more naturalistic approach might have worked better. But overall, great job!

  • Comment number 73.

Wow. Amazing. I can see this being very addictive!

  • Comment number 74.

I really enjoyed this and look forward to the next episode!!

  • Comment number 75.

Wow. What an amazing pilot. It manages to marry the compelling elements of any hospital drama - complex relationships, competition, sibling rivalry, etc - with a really disturbing supernatural element.

The realism of the low-key hospital setting and shabby interns' rooms make the mystery all the more scary. Hannah is an excellent central character because you are on her side every step of the way- she is logical in the way she investigates, she cares but she's not over-emotional.

Perfectly-paced and completely gripping from beginning to end. Well done all! I really hope it gets made into a series.

  • Comment number 76.

I thought this was absolutely great! Well written, well cast and well produced. It's great that the BBC have created something original and fresh for BBC Three. Series please!

  • Comment number 77.

FAB!! Love the intrigue. Bring on a series, yes please :-)

  • Comment number 78.

Reminded me of The Kingdom "Riget". Atmospheric with believable characters. Would like to see more of this a big thumbs up!

  • Comment number 79.

Fantastic! This must become a full blown series, not to make it would be a travesty. I was hooked from the first minute. I need to know what happens next!

  • Comment number 80.

Brilliant start. As good as Ashes to Ashes was when it first began. Great sub plots and strong characters. Bold moves in the way of plot and character. Fantastic performances. Cannot wait to see where this is going.

  • Comment number 81.

I really enjoyed it, hope to see more in the future.

  • Comment number 82.

I loved this. It was so intriguing. Who's in on the "trial"? What was inside Nick? Is Hannah's mother trying to communicate with her? So many questions which absolutely need to be answered.

Totally gripping. Totally mystifying. Totally want to see how the story progresses. Please commission the continuation!

  • Comment number 83.

very interesting. Left me wanting to see the next one, lets hope a series is commissioned. Only thing i found a bit annoying was the fact it seemed unable to distinguish itself from being a drama or a creepy/horror. Some moments were very gripping however i didnt think the story was massively well developed but there certainly were edgy moments with great suspense and horror.

  • Comment number 84.

I loved it, I don't think I've watched anything like it before. I've never watched a programme where I was covering my eyes but I still wanted to watch it. I really want to know what was in them now.

  • Comment number 85.

we really enjoyed the pilot.. looking forward to seeing a full series!

  • Comment number 86.

The numpties who insist BBC3 should be shut down ought to be silenced by Pulse. I can't imagine this being made anywhere else. Tense, well acted, perfectly paced Cronenberg-esque body horror. More please!

  • Comment number 87.

    That was awesome!!!
I wanna know what happens next!!!
Please let there be a full series!!! :)

  • Comment number 88.

Looks great- love zombie stuff! All seems very serious though. I bet the dead guy in the bath gets up and walks out of the morgue!
    Series please.
    Ta.

  • Comment number 89.

really enjoyed the pilot of pulse.cant wait to see more episodes to find out what the connection between the experiments and hannahs mum

  • Comment number 90.

yay! a great new pilot- id really like to see this made into a series. Good british horror- very original. x

  • Comment number 91.

Pulse was fantastic, the woman at end well freaked me out ToT!!

  • Comment number 92.

Just sat and watched the pilot and got the same buzz as when I watched Being Human. Great tv ,frightening and disturbing. Hungry for more? Hell yeah.

  • Comment number 93.

A really cleaver take on an enviroment we perceive to be safe. Brilliant hope to see more !!

  • Comment number 94.

    Have just watched this!
It was fab, the story line was rather enthralling I got really rather involved while watching it, great job!

  • Comment number 95.

Loved Pulse, thrilling, scary, gripping and a brilliant cliffhanger. So nice to see a really unusual, new kind of drama. Pleeeeeaaaase give this show a full series.

  • Comment number 96.

I thought the pilot episode of this series was AMAZING! I hope there are PLENTY more to come. the best thing to hit television yet! i loved it! it was well written, with a good plot. well directed& well shot. the episode made me want more. the way the story was told was amazing, and it kept me watching throughout which is something i don't do much of. absolutley AMAAAZINGG! GIVE ME MORE! it was fantastic!

  • Comment number 97.

Fantastic! I thought this first pilot was really great. It brought in a sence of realism with a hint of Sci Fi. I loved the twist at the end and can't wait to see the rest of the series. Some very hot scenes and some really overwhelming nudity. Well done to all actors involved takes real guts for some of them scenes.

  • Comment number 98.

Just managed to catch the end of it, and haven't had the chance to rewatch, but my first impression was that it seemed to be something like Casualty meets CSI with zombies.
A bit too much blood from what I saw, but it seemed really tense and thrilling. The story sounds very interesting; made me question as to whether "I thought he was a zombie" would be a reasonable excuse for killing someone in a Court.

  • Comment number 99.

Just wow Pulse is probably one of (If not) the best show I've seen on BBC3, it had just about everything I'd want to see in a drama, I beg of you BBC commision this to be a full series, it totally deserves it

  • Comment number 100.

Very nicely done. Would like to see more.

With the end of some high profile American drama series recently, my group of friends is looking for something else to feed on. PULSE could very well be it.
