Consent Language & Introduction

Thank you for your interest in our survey.

Purpose:

The spread of COVID-19 is especially dangerous to people who are incarcerated. We need to learn more about their experiences and the challenges they are facing during this time. With this survey, we want to collect information about how incarcerated persons are living through this difficult time. We are not able to directly survey people who are incarcerated now. So, we are asking people who have recently been incarcerated, or communicated with someone who is currently incarcerated, to tell us about the experiences of people incarcerated during COVID-19. You must be at least 18 years old participate in this research. We hope to survey at least 50 people.

Your Part:

You will fill out the study survey which should take about 15 minutes to complete. The information you give will be anonymous; your survey answers will not be linked to you in anyway. We may present the survey results to other scientists or publish them in scientific papers. At the end, your individual responses will not be shared, only overall findings from all surveys will be made public. This can help medical professionals, law professionals, and advocates understand what the needs are of people who are incarcerated during COVID-19.

Use of data by study researchers:

The research team led by Dr. Monik C. Jiménez, ScD at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, MA will be able to see your answers. Your anonymous answers may be used or shared with other researchers.

Risks:

You may feel uncomfortable talking about incarceration or the experiences of those who are currently incarcerated. You can stop participating at any time and you can skip any questions you'd rather not answer.
