Police in Calgary are investigating the “suspicious” death of a teenager with special needs.

Family members have identified the young woman as 19-year-old Jessica Hagen, who had Down syndrome. She was found dead Tuesday, in her parents’ home.

Another woman who relatives identified as Jessica’s mother, Christine Hagan, was found injured inside the house.

Police have released few details, and have only said that they are treating Jessica’s death as “suspicious.” They have not confirmed that a crime has taken place inside the home.

In a statement to CTV Calgary, Jessica’s brother Daniel said she was his “biggest supporter.”

Daniel said the teen came to his bodybuilding shows and he gave her all of his medals.

“Jessica was the most purely loving person I've ever known,” he said. “You can't truly understand her absolute love for the people in her life without meeting her. This is a devastating loss for myself and my family."

Police have said that at least three people live at the home where Jessica died. Property records show that the homeowners are Len and Christine Hagan.

Neighbours told CTV Calgary that Christine Hagan was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer earlier this year.

One neighbour, Raj Ghosh, said the family moved into the neighbourhood a couple of years ago.

“Very nice people, very helpful people,” he said.

Officers say they have never been called to the Hagan home before. An autopsy has yet to be completed.
