From Morecambe and Wise to Ant and Dec, the national newspapers have been having a ball with the new-found friendship between Nick Clegg and David Cameron.

Obviously above such simple comparisons, Today brought Simon Hoggart of The Guardian and Andrew Gimson of the Telegraph together to ponder the deeper comic potential of the new coalition.

"I do think we need a new journalism. Stable and secure journalism for five years," suggested Gimson.

And the best joke of the discussion? By the laughter in the studio it was probably this from Simon Hoggart: "They were so lovey-dovey yesterday, if they'd turned up at a bed and breakfast, Chris Grayling would have forbidden them from coming in".
