A Solano County Superior Court jury on Thursday convicted a former Vallejo special-education teacher of raping and impregnating his severely developmentally disabled student aide in 2011.

Following about a day of deliberations after a four-day trial, the jurors found Jerry Johnson, 57, of Elk Grove guilty of one count of rape of a person incapable of consenting due to mental and developmental disabilities.

Prosecutors said the victim, who is now 20, has the intellect of a 7-year-old. At some point, prosecutors said Johnson became romantically involved with the victim, and had unprotected sexual intercourse with her. This resulted in her conceiving and giving birth to his child, who is now about 14 months old.
