What Are Common Symptoms Of Nose Polyps

Nasal polyps are usually harmless, but can cause unpleasant symptoms. Known symptoms are:

A stuffy nose

A reduced sense of smell and taste

Bad breath

Headaches and facial pain

Some heavy feeling in the head

These symptoms occur because polyps block the opening between the nasal cavity and side cavities, blocking the mucus discharge

The above complaints usually get worse when you lie down. This makes it more difficult to get to sleep. By dripping your nose with salt water or taking a steam bath, you can temporarily relieve the nasal polyps symptoms.

If you suffer from the above complaints, the doctor will check with a special instrument whether you suffer from nasal polyps.

If this is the case, you will be referred to the ENT doctor. This doctor will perform a general examination to look into your nose.

Usually the nasal polyps are immediately visible. If this is not the case, then a visual inspection of the nose is performed called nasal endoscopy. With a special ‘viewer’ the doctor looks higher and deeper in the nose.

This examination is done under local anesthesia. It is possible that x-rays of the para nasal sinuses are also made, such as a sinus or a CT scan.
