Two officers sustain minor injuries in North Portland patrol car crash

Two police officers were taken to a local hospital after their patrol cars collided in North Portland.

Shortly before 4:40 a.m., the officers were dispatched to an assault-in-progress call at an apartment complex in 4200 block of North Alaska Street.

As the two officers drove to the call, they crashed at the intersection of North Willis Boulevard and North Haven Avenue, heavily damaging both patrol cars and a station wagon parked nearby, according to Sgt. Pete Simpson, a police spokesman.

The officers were believed to have sustained minor injuries. No civilians were involved in the collision.

The intersection was briefly shut down as investigators processed the crash scene.

Officers from the Portland Police Bureau's Traffic Division are investigating the circumstances of the crash.

Other officers were dispatched to the assault call, which turned out to be a verbal argument.
