Peltier will have turned 70 years old at the Coleman Federal Correctional Complex in Florida, 38 of those years in prison while serving a life sentence in the deaths of two FBI agents. The federal prosecutors have attempted to portray him as a callous cold-blooded murderer, however, when confronted with with held evidence, a ballistic report said that Peltiers gun was not the one that killed the agents. Prosecutor, Lynn Crooks, admitted that they did not know who killed the agents! Due to a supreme court ruling, the federal court were unable to grant a new trial. Federal Judge Gerald Heaney, who presided over this appeals court hearing stated he felt a degree of discmfort with their decision and wrote a letter to the president asking that Peltier's sentence be commuted.
His case has been supported by foreign heads of state and world religious leaders, and is even considered a political prisoner by Amnesty International who have reviewed trial records and determined he has not received a fair trial. Peltier has also been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for his charitable works, SIX times!
As we near his birthday, we ask everyone to help publize his case and create widespread awareness. Would be presidential assassins, mass murderers and numerous other killers have been released, while Peltier remains imprisoned despite a mountain of evidence revealing fabrication of evidence, coercing/falsifying testimony and other consitutional violations.
We will have several special guests on this program September 12th, and towards the conclusion of the show, we will open up as many lines as we can to sing Happy Birthday to Leonard Peltier. I hope that you will join us!
