State investigators say they’ve found two cases of patient maltreatment at the Minnesota Security Hospital in St. Peter.
The findings by the state Office of the Inspector General are the latest allegations of improper procedures at the hospital, which provides treatment to more than 400 adults who are mentally ill and dangerous.
In one case, investigators say a male patient banged his head against a concrete wall for three hours without any staff intervention. In the second case, a female patient who suffered from seizures didn’t receive advanced medical treatment for four hours after suffering a stroke.
The hospital will be fined $2,000 as a result, according to a report from Minnesota Public Radio News (http://bit.ly/1fla4bA).
The state has extended the facility’s conditional license through the end of next year.
