Doris Blunt's 16-year-old daughter has cerebral palsy. But up until now, her Reading home lacked a wheelchair ramp, meaning that Blunt had no way to get her daughter, Amanda Blocker, to school.

As a result, the truancy charges from the public school just kept piling up, according to local media reports.

Now, finally, someone is doing something to solve the problem.

As the Reading Eagle reports, contractors were busy this week building a new deck and wheelchair lift for Blunt and her daughter.

The newspaper reported back in January that Reading School District officials had cited Blunt for truancy about 10 times.

The citations came on days when Blunt couldn't find anyone to help her get Amanda's wheelchair down the front steps, the newspaper said.

However, a magistrate familiar with her case tossed the citations, but the wheelchair access problem remained.

Finally, the Berks County Community Foundation awarded grant money for the project that will actually solve the problem, the Eagle reports.

Says Blunt: "Our lives are going to be so different now."
