Alleged Beaverton sex assault suspect arrested after leaving victim note hoping 'you don't hate me'

The 39-year-old victim did call police. The suspect, 33-year-old Cruz Bonilla, was arrested on Wednesday, two days after he left the note, according to a probable cause affidavit.

"I hope you don't hate me," the note said. Along with his phone number, Bonilla encouraged the woman to call if she wanted "and send me to jail please," the affidavit said.

Bonilla was booked into the Washington County Jail on charges of first-degree sex abuse, first-degree sodomy and first-degree burglary.

The victim told

that Bonilla came into her apartment in the

about 1:30 a.m., on August 15 through an unlocked sliding door and sexually assaulted her while she was in her bathroom, the affidavit said. He then fled. The woman said she did not know Bonilla.

The woman discovered Bonilla's note outside on Monday and gave it to police, the affidavit said. Beaverton police detectives traced the number back to Bonilla and found him in Hillsboro on Wednesday morning.

Bonilla told police he met the woman while walking through her apartment complex on August 15 on his way to a bus stop on Tualatin Valley Highway near Southwest 153rd Avenue, the affidavit said.

The affidavit said Bonilla claimed he started talking to the woman, she went into her apartment and he followed her inside uninvited. He admitted to police that he sexually assaulted her.

According to the affidavit, Bonilla said he returned to the woman's apartment and left the note because he felt guilty.
