Footprints in snow lead to cigarette heist suspects

Police have arrested two men suspected of stealing more than 400 packs of cigarettes from Sonnenberg’s Market during a burglary at 3:30 a.m. today. Police responded to an alarm at the store at 1528 E. Sprague Ave. and found the glass door had been smashed in with a rock. Officers followed footprints in the snow to an apartment at 1625 E. Pacific Ave. They arrested Clayton R. Kerr, 20, and Caleb G. Asbury, 19, on suspicion of second-degree burglary. The owner of the market told police that he was missing more than 400 individual packs of cigarettes as well as between five and 10 cartons of cigarettes. Video surveillance cameras recorded the burglary. Police obtained a search warrant and recovered a large number of cigarettes from the apartment as well as the clothing apparently worn by the burglars.
