Molalla home-invasion rapist 'full of evil,' sentenced to 38 years in prison

"Look at me," the woman on the witness stand demanded in a loud, firm voice.

"You are selfish. You are full of evil," she said, her voice filling with fury as she spoke.

Twenty feet away, David Brian Martin sat next to his attorney, shackled and head bowed.

"I was a virgin and you took that from me. Something that was not yours to take," the woman told Martin Tuesday when was sentenced to 38 years in prison.

In August 2013, Martin broke into a Molalla residence and raped the then 23-year-old woman, who was a guest at the home.

In April, Martin, 32, and a still-unknown accomplice, burglarized a house two blocks away where Martin terrorized a young mother and her two-year-old daughter.

"This is the kind of case TV shows are made of and people live in fear of," said Clackamas County prosecutor Bryan Brock, although home-invasion rapes are a rarity.

Martin agreed to a plea deal in that puts him behind bars until he is 70. In return, the state agreed to drop several charges and agreed not to pursue an unrelated burglary charge. (Martin is suspected of burglarizing a West Linn restaurant where he once worked.)

Martin pleaded guilty to first-degree rape, first-degree sodomy, two counts of first-degree burglary and two counts of second-degree kidnapping.

"You are pretty much everyone's worst nightmare," Clackamas County Presiding Judge Robert Herndon told Martin.

His prior convictions which include third-degree sexual abuse, first-degree theft and tampering with evidence.

Martin wore a ski mask during the August attack. A Molalla police investigation matched DNA found at the scene that linked Martin to the crime.

Before police could locate Martin, he committed a second break-in and sexual assault.

The victim in the second case had moved into the house three days earlier. She and her husband had just purchased the house. "It was a time of love and celebration," she said.

After she arrived home to continue unpacking, her young daughter encountered Martin and screamed.

Martin pushed the girl into a closet and forced the woman to perform a sex act.

"I thought this invader, this monster was ready to kill me," she said. She said Martin made a terrifying threat: "If we said anything you would blow my and my daughter's heads off."

Martin also vowed to blow up the house.

The woman was "so terrorized she was afraid to call 911," Brock said.

Martin offered an apology to his victims and about two dozen of their family members and friends who attended the sentencing.

"I don't know what I was thinking. I was messed up on drugs," Martin said. "I started mixing all kinds of drugs in a horrible combination."

"I'm not that kind of person. I'm not a monster," Martin said. "Please forgive me. I hope God will forgive me for what I have done."
