CEDAR CITY, Utah, April 25 - Southern Utah University's
men's basketball program has signed one player to a national letter of intent
for the 2011-12 season, Head Coach Roger Reid has announced. Julian Scott, a
6-foot-7, 235-pound sophomore forward from Marysville, Calif., signed with the
Thunderbirds.
Scott, an all-Bay Valley Conference performer at Yuba
College last season, averaged 12.6 points and 6.0 rebounds for the 49ers in
2010-11. He helped the team to a 25-6 overall mark and a conference
championship after the 49ers finished a perfect 11-0 in league play. Yuba then
went on to win the conference tournament.
Scott appeared in all 31 of the 49ers' games, shot 58.6
percent from the field, blocked 25 shots and averaged over an assist per game.
Prior to playing at Yuba College, Scott prepped at Inderkum High School in
Sacramento, Calif.
"We really like Julian's versaitility and the things we
think he can do for us," Reid said. "At 6-7, 235 he's a big, physical player,
who will give us a presence inside but he also has a nice shooting touch out to
about 18 feet. He's left-handed, so he will give us another dimension there,
and he's a good rebounder, a good offensive rebounder.
"Julian has also played on some good teams, he's a winner,"
Reid added. "This year's team had three Division-I players, they won their
conference championship and they've been a great program over the past five
years."
