New Japan Ambassador to Somalia Tatsushi Terada has today handed over Office equipment to the Somali Police forces.
The handover ceremony was held in the headquarters of the Somali Police forces in Mogadishu and was attended by the Police Commissioner Brigadier General Abdihakim Dahir Said and other dignitaries, including officials from the International Community.
The equipment were delivered through the UN assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM).
Speaking in a press Conference, Ambassador Terada pledged that Japan will continue the support it’s giving to the Somali government, especially the Police department.
“Public security remains as one of the three main pillars for Japan’s assistance to Somalia and it is keen to continue its support to the Somali police officers fulfilling their noble tasks under difficult conditions,” he said.
Somali Police Commission Brigadier General Abdihakim Said thanked the government of Japan for playing a vital role in rebuilding Somali police sector. The Police Commissioner promised that the equipment will be put to good use.
Since 2007, Japan has contributed about $300 million to the Federal Government of Somalia, out of which $60 million is directed to security.
