Police: Men Robbed Disabled Fayetteville Woman

FAYETTEVILLE — A Bentonville man faces felony charges after police said he stole a disabled woman’s medication while his friend trapped her in her laundry room.

Police arrested Kalen Charles Eldred, 26, of 11080 Arkansas 72 in Bentonville in connection with felony robbery, theft of property and first-degree false imprisonment. He was in the Washington County Detention Center without bond Saturday.

An arrest report listed Joshua Hunter Courtney, 24, as Eldridge’s accomplice, but he wasn’t listed in the Washington County Detention Center’s intake report on Saturday.

According to the report, Eldred and Courtney went to Barbara Carnes’ home on Prairie Grove Lake Road to fix her dryer on Wednesday.

Carnes bought the dryer from Courtney and it wasn’t working properly, police said.

Investigators said Carnes, who walks with a cane, is disabled and takes various medications for pain.

Courtney told Carnes to look at the dryer with him in the laundry room, the report said.

Carnes told police Courtney was acting strange so she tried to leave, but Courtney blocked the door, the report said.

After a few seconds, police said Courtney let Carnes leave the laundry room.

She walked to the living room, realized something was “amiss” and began looking around, the report said.

Eldred was gone and Carnes saw a bag next to her chair that contained all of her medications, according to police.

As Carnes got to her front door, Courtney grabbed her from behind, causing Carnes to fall to the floor and injure her hip and neck, the report said.

Police said Carnes got to the door just in time to see Courtney back out of her driveway.

Eldred was arrested and taken to the Washington County Detention Center, where he was being held without bond Saturday.
