Angry dad sends Facebook wish for shooting at Camas High School, prompting police investigation

The father of a boys basketball player in Vancouver is under investigation after posting on Facebook that he was hoping for a shooting at an opponent’s school.

Students and parents at Camas High School discovered the posting during a Tuesday night game and notified authorities, said Josh Gibson, Camas School District’s athletic director. The post was made by the father of a player from Skyview High School, which beat Camas 44-42.

“Camas fans!!!!! Worst in the league!!!!” the 39-year-old man wrote. “I hope someone shoots up their school really soon!!!!!!!!!!"

The father posted a message around midnight Tuesday as a possible clarification to the original posting, which was deleted within hours.

“In no way shape or form do I wish harm on any human being,” he wrote. “Except terrorist who hurt people.“

Gibson said the father has been issued a no-trespass notice for all property in the Camas School District. He added that police are still trying to determine when the man posted the original message, but believe it was sent either just before or during the basketball game.

Witnesses saw the father argue with a group of students on his way out of the Camas school's gym, Gibson said.

"Our top priority lies with the safety of our students and we've been in contact with local police," he said. "But obviously this is a clear case of very poor judgment."

Sgt. Fred Neiman, a Clark County Sheriff's Office spokesman, said a school resource officer at Skyview High interviewed the father and son Wednesday for their side of the incident.

Camas police said the incident remained under investigation and no charges were filed.

The father involved did not immediately respond to calls Wednesday from The Oregonian.
