Is there any first-hand information (i.e. from Genius themselves) that their tablets, or some models of them, don't have Wintab support in their drivers?

Well, as for the Genius tablet support - for the price of Wacom 8x6 tablet (that is supported by GTK), one can buy Photoshop as well...

It was reaction on devv's comment - I've used quote marks but was strpped :(

GIMP can handle all Tablets that use the "Wintab" standard (because GTK+ uses it, and GIMP relys on GTK), which sadly Genius is not using as it seems. Thats why your graphics tablet is not supported. I think Genius has done some proprietary stuff, so it's hard to include support for this.
Probably not fully true because gimp 2.6 works with my tablet just fine

I had .16 of UFRaw and it worked that last time I used it. I un-installed it and installed .18 and it was missing a number of things so un-installed it. Since I rarely used UFRaw, I didn't re-install .16. :)

You do realize that UFRaw is still the same and its current behavior won't change until someone makes a new release of it, right?

I read that UFRAW only crashes when moving the window! Try not to move it ;)

Just re-installed UFRaw Dev; crashes like a booger-bear. Missing a lot a dlls and such and it shouldn't since I just re-installed version .18. Un-installing it now. Never really liked UFRaw anyway, but I did have .16 installed and it worked the last time I used it (and believe it was over a year ago; lol). I usually use ACR (yeah; have CS5 too; only use CS5 to process RAWs) for editing RAW files. :)

Lyle: could you maybe check if ufraw is now working without the error msg? my virtualbox is not working atm so I can't test this...

Well; just installed the Windows version (noticed that it was released on Sourceforge) and so far so good which is a good thing since no change is a good thing sometimes. lol

I hope they fixed the brush sizes not changing when you select a different brush.

Going to soon download and install the updates; hoping things will be fine afterwards. :)
