Fundamentals of SQL SERVER 2012
Sebastian Meine, Ph.D.
This book was a pleasure to read.
Sebastian offers a breezy introduction to SQL Server 2012 replication that touches on all the main points. And it was well edited - you won't stumble across any typos or grammar errors (nice). He carefully explains subtleties, like security, without overwhelming the reader with a lot of jargon.
After providing an overview of replication in general (publisher, distributor, subscriber, push vs. pull, replication agents etc.) the book handles transactional replication in detail before examining merge replication and the differences between the two.
Exercises are everywhere, so you can build his replications on your own servers while reading the book.
This book has chapters devoted to the distributor, publication access list, SQL Server Agent jobs, conflict resolution for merges, and replication monitor. These are important subjects in their own right, and he has emphasized that importance by these sections.
But an additional chapter on using the more limited SQL Server Express would be welcomed.
Sebastian concludes with a section on troubleshooting, which is really important since replication errors can be difficult to interpret.
Who should buy this book?
Anyone who knows SQL Server basics (but wants to replicate) would be well-served by reading this book before digging into BOL.
However, this book looks more like a notepad document rather than a book.
Chapter 3 examines the role of the distributor including the best practices to be followed. Chapters 4 & 5 provide an overview of replication agents and transactional replication related to publication. The author examines the steps related to configure publication access list in chapter 6.
You will learn transactional replication aspects related to subscription in addition to configuration of retention. The next chapter covers SQL Server agent jobs such as snapshot, log reader, distribution and replication maintenance in addition to the coverage of the steps related to create SQL Server agent jobs.
Chapters 9, 10 and 11 examine merge replication aspects related to replication agents, publication, subscription and conflicts. Chapter 13 provides coverage of the usage of replication monitor. Among other concepts you will learn the steps required to view information about a publisher, transactional publications, merge and snapshot publications.
The author has provided detailed step-by-step explanation along with relevant screenshots in addition to diagrams, screenshots and source codes. In the final chapter, you will learn the steps related to troubleshoot publication, subscription including coverage of tracer tokens and date problems.
Fundamentals of SQL Server 2012 Replication will be useful for database administrators, SQL Server trainers and for those developers who would like to explore advanced techniques associated with SQL Server.

Title of this book "Fundamentals of SQL Server 2012 Replication" confusing because in whole book there is no information about what new in SQL Server 2012 replication or even there is no discussion about SQL Server version 2012 & replication.
Again I like this book and suggest for beginners.
Thanks you Sebastian & Kalen Delaney as technical reviewer.
